This payment processor is notorious for keeping people's money for 90 to 120 days without explanation or reason. Do not do business here. I just started a new company and on-boarded my startup as I finally got my very 1st customer I worked so hard for. I am developing a software to be delivered to VCs in 45 days. When. The customer payed me to get to work Square deactivated my account immediately to keep the payment. They're excuse is to protect the customer but if that's so then why won't they just allow me to refund the customer. I have never had a previous transaction with Square so there's no bad history. This is just an excuse to retain other peoples hard earned money. This will legit ruin my customers goal to build this software, ruin my reputation and my first client engagement as a founder. They deactivated my account, won't allow me to refund and blocked communication when this is something that is an easy fix. This is very unethical and it is causing a lot of damage to my business and also my clients business. My client and I are missing a lot of opportunities here and looking forward to talking to legal counsel to join the millions of other Square has done this too. Please be safe and do not let any money touch their platform.
We opened shop at the end of October 2023.we sold over $******* in a week. But they suddenly closed our account by no reason.And they said they hold 90days.then they will pay back to me.But of course never happen. Than I found this page.
So let's start class-action (lawsuit)by same situation case.This is just scam.They have to go to jail.
Ordered the wrong hardware from square, they refused to cancel the order even though it hasnt shipped yet. Apparently thats their policy. No order cancellations... extremely shady busy and garbage customer service. I was planning on using their services but now I will never use square... horrible business practice
I have been in business for over 20 years. Usually my clients pay in cash ACH or check. I started doing business with a new client that wanted to pay by credit card. Signed up with Square, the absolute worse decision I have made in business. They took the payments from my customer and then told me that I'm not approved as a merchant. They are holding my payment for 90 days and not refunding me the cost of joining and paying for additional services.
Customer service hung up on me when I asked to speak to a manager.

Call, and they have no idea how to help, you just get passed from department to department. I just had a representative put me old hold and he came back and said "I can look into this now, sorry I just needed a few minutes!" Chat is even worse, bizarrely people just drop off the chats every few minutes and then a new person picks up.
They were a pretty good company at start cheap and easy customer support was never any good and it's still just as bad. Getting someone to help you is like pulling teeth with a shoe string. So the portal wouldn't let me delete my account go figure we know what that's about. Intuit QuickBooks did the same thing. Not to mention AT&t they all try to hang on to you. Well after 45 minutes on the phone 15 minutes of texting finally got it deleted horrible horrible customer service square I give you all a zero.
Although I had eight good years of using Square this past month, a Friday, and a Saturday of retail sales in December before Christmas, most of my debits disappeared. Between 1 o'clock and 5 o'clock on a Friday and on a Saturday in December all my transactions went through the processing system perfectly and never came to my account nor appeared on my dashboard after over 20 hours of trying to get a hold of a supervisor I would only be coming connected to lower level people that would either hang up or transfer my call and they would hang up and I could never get a solution. I lost over $350 in sales. The people on the helpdesk told me I had to take peoples phone numbers and credit card numbers so that they could get back to them and be sure their bank took out the money before they could ever help me. Use another credit card system processor if you want your money.
Square is a the worst company. Greedy, terrible customer service. Not only they have the highest fees structure, they are greedy mf that will take their fees even on fraudulent transactions. Wouldn't surprise me if they initiated those transactions themselves to collect bogus fees. Stay away at all cost.
I changed my merchant bank account several months ago and have not been able to get the new account registered with Square. You cannot speak to a customer service representative by phone, they text you and expect you to sit for hours texting with them. When I requested speaking with someone in person the texts get really snarky and they absolutely refuse to let you speak with someone. Their automated phone system has NO option to speak by phone. I will be finding a new service as soon as I get my money from these clowns that they are holding.
I had a Tenant signed a lease agreement for 12 months my tenant received reoccurring statements every month once rent is due. If square actually took the time to look she's been paying so all of a sudden it was a mistake. Well she paid her rent late and then disputed it saying that she has no regulation of the transaction with that being said she was able to get her rent money back through Square. ( they fell for the scam) and clearly this is something that the tenant do is dispute transactions after they received services so if you are a landlord, you may not want to use square they favored in the card holders favor me the landlord without rent, knowing that she has abandoned my property. I have damages and text messages as well as the lease that I was able to prove to square that she was a tenant, and they still agreed in her favor. I am not happy with please do not do business with them to save your sanity.
Answer: Square is a legit company, just a deeply unethical one that will leave you out to dry if they can get away with it. And they can get away with it.
