My husband always did our taxes and I just always signed my name. He passed away in April 2024 so I had to learn to do them. This being my first year, I contacted an accountant. She needed last years return and I had no hard copies or even access to the cite my husband used so I started crying. How am I going to do this? I depended SO much on my husband for everything. ID me had trouble verifying me off of my ID and face scan so I had to get more documents to prove that I was me. I had to do a video call with a worker with said documents and show them on camera. Which I don't mind but the queue time was 25 minutes and I waited an hour and a half at my laptop. The call itself was quick

Being an expat with a non-US address, printed in a foreign language in utility bills, and with various versions of my name appearing across records, I could not be verified by Login.gov. ID.me was really the only option, unless you want to spend countless hours on overseas calls without a certain outcome.
I had some trouble with legit docs being rejected but realize ID.me are holding a high standard to verify. Eventually it all worked out, but lack of commenting is the only reason I did not give 5 stars.
I tend to imagine the worst possible scenarios sometimes when going through new or uncommon experiences so when this video call went very smoothly with great ease and swiftness it made me feel relieved and happy, hopefully everyone else will be just as lucky.

The most daunting task is gathering all the documents you need. They are particular in having documents show your name exactly as your ID/Passport does. People may not use their middle name on financial documents or monthly bills, like myself. So, once you get that gathered, it's fine. It's a little odd holding your ID at your nose and slowly moving it towards your camera. I recommend finding a quiet and well lit spot to set your phone down. So you're more comfortable versus holding the phone in one hand and your ID in another. Other than that, your video call is short, simple and sweet. The representative I had was a native English speaker. I used the service on a Sunday morning and wait times were only two minutes.
I had an issue with my verification due to a cell number but thankfully this website uses video calling to use as a form of verification. Thank Goodness, the process was seamless. Definitely recommend it over competitor.
