Unreliable services.
April 28, 2025

I engaged Agent Melissa Parks to handle my tax preparation on April 9th at ******* York Rd, Cockeysville, MD. She promptly scanned all of my documents into the system and informed me that while she could not complete my taxes that same day, she would contact me on either April 11th or 12th to review and finalize the filing. Unfortunately, I never received any follow-up communication from her. On Monday, April 14th—just one day before the filing deadline—I contacted the office and was informed that Ms. Parks was not present and her availability was unknown. A representative assured me that a message would be relayed to her to call me back urgently. I also contacted the customer service line, where another representative scheduled a call with Ms. Parks for Tuesday, April 15th (the tax deadline). Regrettably, Ms. Parks failed to return my call on Monday and did not honor the scheduled call on Tuesday. Melissa Parks demonstrated a concerning level of unprofessionalism and unreliability. She neglected to provide even a brief communication to inform me that she would not be completing my return. Her failure to fulfill her responsibilities placed me under significant and unnecessary stress, scrambling to meet the filing deadline at the last minute. I cannot recommend her services based on this experience.

I filed my taxes at Cloverdale mall in Toronto,Ontario. After I received my assessment, I went back to ask questions because the amount was much lower. The manager,EUN, who is not even an accountant, was upset because I did not book an appt. She was rude and screamed at me in front of all the other customers. She claimed that I was accusing her while I only needed an explanation about the ammount I was recevied, it was a $#*! show.I am Very upset with the HR block services, never go back again, terrible experience, she also pounded on the desk. Saying this was not her fault. Everyone was shocked with her attitude.Carmen Moretti

HR software faulty---I used last year and this year and when they transferred data their software made error to IRS---I have both printed from their MYBLOCK and 2023/2024 data 100% correct. So after paying for a online adviser they are stating its the IRS has the wrong data--so I showed they transferred the data and they verified my data was correct---but they charged me anyway and still said I had to fix wiht IRS---what a horrible company

Over the past few weeks I received two separate brochures in the mail from H&R Block touting 5 different tax prep software products: Basic, Deluxe, Deluxe+State, Premium, and Premium & Business. I need the Deluxe version (as I used it last year) because it has the features I need, and the program is federal only, no state return where I live. The brochures advertise the Deluxe version at a sale price of $36.95 and direct you to the website hrblock.com/taxprepsoftware. However, on the website, only 4 software products are shown; the Deluxe version (without state tax program) is nowhere to be found. Calling H&R Block's software support at *******288 leads to multiple rounds of frustrating communication with an idiot robovoice, who finally agrees to connect you to a human being where, after 5 minutes on hold, your call is disconnected. I will never again try to use H&R Block.

I have been using H&R Block for over 20 years and never had an issue. This year however, I do not have anything good to say about their services. My refund check was missing, which should not have been since I requested direct deposit and NOT a paper check. I called H&R Block 3 times to speak with the woman that did my taxes, the receptionist was being extremely rude on the phone when I was explaining to her that my check was missing, she was making assumptions and giving me wrong information. Finally after 3 phone calls I left a DM for the tax woman, my email started politely and professionally her reply was rude and extremely unprofessional. All I simply wanted to know was when the paper check was mailed so I knew not to contact the IRS to start an investigation, of course that really pissed off H&R Block and after that I never heard back from her asking if she could help or if I received the paper check. I finally did receive the paper check, which helps me pay my bills. I DO NOT RECOMMEND H&R BLOCK THEY ARE UNPROFESSIONAL and extremely rude find yourself another way to do your taxes,

I penned this letter:
Ms. Nicki Cole, VP of Technology, Small Business and Financial Services
1 H and R Block Way
Kansas City, MO *******

Ms. Cole,

I wish to alert you to software 'glitches' in the DIY 2023 Federal return software.

What seemed to be a quick and easy tax reporting this year turned into yet another software aggravation afternoon that has turned into two afternoons lost simply because the downloaded to my pc version of U.S. Federal tax package is unable to identify and insert "Distributions Used to Pay Insurance Premiums for Public Safety Officers" numbers on line 5(b) of form 1040. I did see when the software 'asked me' relevant questions but then the matter 'disappeared' along with the $2066 reduction in adjusted gross income.

Recording the $2066 onto the form 1040 has not happened despite calls to and the apparent efforts of three different 'customer service' representatives over two days. The current status of 'case ******* is 'waiting'. Ms. Maria indicated her entire 'team' was unable to direct me to the portion of the program associated with that line 5(b) entry on form 1040, that "Someone will call back within 5 days".

During the many times to and fro the software, I noticed on the page "Additional Information for Early Distributions", a box was checked for
"Excess Accumulations (Not enough withdrawn) from a retirement plan, … If you have a 1099R in your return, you can't uncheck this box..."
Yes, I could not 'uncheck the box'. Despite assurances, the software did not tell itself to 'uncheck the box'. I have a 1099R report form along with charitable giving checks as documentation. The investment firm computed the required minimum distribution as $624 more than the money I gave away. The distribution is indicated on the 1099R.
HOW can I have "excess accumulations"? Why did I need waste two afternoons on this?

I encourage you to have some semi-literate types test run the FY 2024 software to determine questions 'average Joe & Juliette' have that, if reworded, would reduce angst and irritation for both your employees and those who pay you for doing so.

I filed my taxes with them last year and the experience was much better than with a certain competitor, but this year I couldn't file at all thanks to their two-step verification and lack of customer service. I changed phones (and numbers) since last year and now they won't let me into my account. The "customer service" number sent me an email which led me into the same horrible loop. Despite me having access to the email, entering the verification number, and entering the password, I could not file because I didn't have access to the phone number. This is sooooooooo ridiculous. They've permanently lost a customer because of this idiocy!

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. TERRIBLE PHONE SERVICE - Wastes valuable time unnecessarily. Almost impossible to get a real person at the Baden PA office. Stupid menu and repeititive mumbo jumbo not needed. No way to contact my tax preparer directly or via email. I will NEVER use their services again for this reason. Totally unacceptable in this day and age. They operate in the Dark Ages there.

Worst customer care
March 18, 2024

On March 4 2024, I drop of my taxes papers my wife. March 18 2024. No calls from Mrs Julie Jensen. I moved back in the Durham Region last November 2023, we used to have our taxes done in Carleton Place, Ontario for the last 4 years. Never a problem and also at a better rate then yours. I brought all the paperworks with all calculations done for both (my wife and I. Former tax person would charge me $350.00 for my wife, myself and my son, compared from your company probably over $600.00 for my wife and myself. Not only Im upset by the excessive fees, I normally at this time of the year all my taxes were filed and I would have already get my refunds. Which in this case, not only my taxes arent filed, MRS JENSEN after 15 days of having my files, not even started or give me any updates about it. This is inacceptable and I should not be after her everyday to find out where shes at. Not impress and I should had listen to my relatives about their referals of taxes people. Very very upset customer that will not repeat. Obviously, I will start posting online reviews of my not finished bad experience with HR BLOCK, which by the way, I used in the past without any issues.

That is a truly impressive solution for managing taxes! I am myself quite a cautious person, trying to comply with all the rules the government imposes, so paying taxes is quite mandatory.
With their mobile application, it's very easy to manage taxes, pay them and be an obedient citizen :)
It doesn't take a lot of time to sign up, to understand how to interact with the mobile application because the interface is intuitively clear and navigation is very straightofrward. Thanks developers for this service!

Never again
March 2, 2024

For the past 25 years I have used H&R. I've never received a break for being loyal in fact the fees for filing with them go up every year. I've always done the emerald advance but this year an elderly lady kept putting my info incorrectly. I even pointed it out nicely and was told by her she was doing it correct. THEY changed my email address because the lady wasn't putting it in correctly so I could verify I am who I am ( sitting in front of her with my id pay stubs etc). I do not know the email address that someone she called for help gave me. I have been upset with them for awhile now but I am loyal so I stayed then I got to thinking about the phone call I received from the manager one time because I gave the lady that did my taxes a good review but when the question was about if the price was fair I said no. Apparently that sparked a reason to get a call from a manager advising me that my survey affects the lady that did my taxes and I shouldn't have done that. I thought about how every year my fee for filing goes up. I thought about making an appointment and when I arrive they can't find my info from last year and how I get to watch people with later appointments get seen before me. I thought of a lot of things and this year when I filed I DID NOT use H&R and got a better refund so now I can't help but wonder how much a refund they have screwed me out if for 25 years?! I will not ever go back to H&R ever again

I'm sure NOT all H&R Block centers are the same, and some MIGHT actually be good. However, my experience was ANYTHING but good!

Specifically, the 487 Baltimore Pike location in Springfield Pennsylvania. As much as I would like to provide the specific name of the analyst, I had the unfortunate circumstance to be "assigned", I won't. However, his titled of "Senior" Tax Analyst was anything but accurate (small clue there). As for being professional, I doubt he could spell it, and surely doesn't know the definition of the word. In fact, he was downright rude.
As many of the other reviews point out, overall, this franchise model is highly unorganized, has had serious regulatory issues, and in this specific location, (487 Baltimore Pike, Springfield PA), they have zero consideration for your time, and in my case, were downright rude and unprofessional.

Do yourself a HUGE favor – go somewhere else, and if you do decide to give H&R block a chance – go to a different location then 487 Baltimore Pike in Springfield PA – and if you do end up there – don't use the "long time" senior tax analyst – you will be sorry!

This place is a noghtmare
February 29, 2024

There is no way you can teach a person on the phone. There are no receptionists so it's like you submit your documents into an abyss and hope that someone gets back to you. The manager Osman Mohammed is unprofessional. He only knows how to raise his voice and hung up on customers face. He needs to be fired. I developed anxiety trying to get my taxes done this year and now they have all my documents and I can't even get them back. This is unreal. Don't go here

SET APPOINTMENT
February 20, 2024

I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THEM 2 WEEKS IN ADVANCE. TO DO TAXES. THEN I GET A CALL A DAY BEFORE APPOINTMENT. TO BRING ALL PAPER WORK IN FOR DROP OFF. SO THEY CAN DO MY TAXES ON THEIR OWN. THEN THEY WOULD CALL ME. TO COME BACK A SECOND TIME. TO DO THE ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES AND ALL OTHER PROCEDURES THERE. TOTAL UNACCEPTABLE THIS PRACTICE IS. ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAD AN APPOINTMENT SET FOR 2 WEEKS. TO COME IN TO DO MY TAXES.

David Whitley was my fiance's tax adjuster and was so unprofessional he did absolutely the minimum lesson the bare minimum really to accommodate my fiance he was rude and he didn't even know what he was talking about my fiance spent more time talking to the IRS then talking with him figuring out his job and what needs to be done matter of fact he didn't even know something as simple an a IP number or what a IP number is then who is required to have one and not to have one being that she's the first time taxpayer why he was asking to go to four digit number when really it's a 6-digit IP number is upstairs because I thought you were a tax professional I recommend that you do not go through this man because he will not accommodate you in any of the ways that you should be and you will end up spending more time having to do his job for him than anything else why he is getting paid and you are so stressed out on the phone with the IRS and losing that money that he's getting paid he is in my words worthless and useless so I recommend that you stay away from him and go with someone else completely different

Not what it used to be.
February 18, 2024

This will be the last year I Will be using H&R Block after using this program for over 8 years. What used to cost $35.00 dollars that cost me $53.75. The program is what I think is "crap". You get all of your information put in and then it says it needs to update federal on February 16th. So I wait until that date to update and then it now turns around and says it needs another update February 23rd. I know several people who have filed in other ways starting in the first of February with no troubles. No updates and have their returns done and back already. H&B you are losing another customer. You are nothing like it used to be. It is kind of a scam type business. Now, shame on me for trusting in something that came from my home town of Kansas City. Never again.
