Death of our Beloved House Rabbit- Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospitals
July 26, 2025

Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospitals Of West Springfield We brought our 3 year old Flemish giant house rabbit to the W. Springfield facility apx 12AM. I explained he was in respiratory distress, he has barely been eating, and needed antibiotics and treatment. The most common rabbit knowledge is if they are showing any signs of illness, it is an emergency, as they are prey animals and this is their nature. They brought him to the back. We did not see a doctor until 6 hours later, only to find out they never gave him the critical life saving care he needed in those precious hours. I researched before going there to make sure they took rabbits. Instead of telling us when we got there that we should bring him somewhere else, because they wouldn't have anyone to even consult until 8/9 in the morning, they kept him there and robbed us of our last chance to save our baby. Rabbit emergency care 101- rabbits have to keep eating when they are ill, or else you need to force feed them. You syringe feed them Critical care supplementation. If they don't eat, they die. Why didn't they even start him on an antibiotic? I will tell you why- because when the vet came to talk to us at 6AM, she said she wasn't sure if the exotic doctor would want to do a CT scan or blood work. That sounds more like a financial incentive than being motivated to do whatever was the best chance to save our sweet boy. We paid over $500 to lose the last moments we had to save him from a disgusting company. I nearly died when I realized what had happened and I left there asap. We brought him to the first opening at his regular vet at 9:30AM, but they said he was too far gone. He very dramatically and traumatically died in my arms by the next morning. All 3 of the closest Emergency vet facilities within an hours from my home are this same freaking horrible company. So some may say this is a microcosm of the turmoil our society has reached. I will add this- over the course of us being there from 12AM until after 6AM, we witnessed 1 family have to leave to bring their daughter home because she was having a panic attack from being made to wait there for so many hours. We saw a man who got there before us leave AMA with his sick pup not being seen, because it was past 4AM and he had to go to work. We say a poor family in agony because the daughter's cat needed to be put down. After hours of us being there, the mother came to the waiting area, fuming. She said 'I do not know what the h*ll that doctor is on, but it is some kind of drug! I have recorded the whole thing and I am going to be reporting it. I cannot believe how she completely freaked out on my poor grieving daughter!'. So my heart is shredded into a thousand pieces. I can't stop looking for him in my home. I cannot believe he is not there. They could have saved him. They could have prevented so many hours of suffering. I will live with the trauma of holding him for hours as he passed away because of this wretched institution. NEVER GO TO THIS FACILITY.

Tip for consumers:

I’m just so very heartbroken and don’t want this to happen to anyone else
