Avery back when it was created, was maintained and owned by Avery Dennison - Office Products. They had a great product and you could print your own personal labels at Home or Work. Avery Dennison created a tool called DesignPro & Avery Wizard that was amazing and WORKED!
Avery now, is NOT Avery Dennison from the past. They sold their Office Products back in 2013 to CCL Industries. If you look at the back of the current label packages, you will see Avery Products Corporation as the name.
You can tell they are more interested in making Huge profits over having quality products and services.
They want you to pay Avery Products to print your labels instead of you owning and maintaining your labels and label formatted files.
If you are lucky enough to still have the Avery DesginPro v5.5 software, keep it. You can still use under Windows 10,7, Vista, XP, 2000 or ME. If you use a 64bit system, need to modify the shortcut to make it work.
Under the Properties of DesignPro 5 icon, go to the Compatibility tab and make the following changes. Click the Box at the bottom called Change settings for all users (if you see this) and under Compatibility Mode click the Box and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) option.
At the bottom make sure you click on Run the program as an administrator
Click Apply, then OK
The nice thing about Avery Dennison, they maintained their software with Template updates for new labels. If something was missing you could also call them and get the new spec's to create a new label model yourself. For example, Avery Blank Printable Tickets ******* was not in DesignPro because it was made after 2013. The reps at the time in 2014 must have been former Avery Dennison reps because I was able to get the specs and add it to DesignPro software without any issue.
Avery now by CCL, could care less about what you use. I tried to call and I was told, sorry we do not provide label specs. You can use our Online Design and Print. I told them I prefer to keep my personal labels on MY system and they said, sorry but we no longer offer that.
I wish Avery Dennison buys back what they sold, but I know that will never happen. CCL industries is horrible with this product line they bought from the original Avery Dennison.
Avery (CCL) has gone down hill. Putting expiring dates on Packages, not keeping they 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed.
If you still have the installer for DesignPro, do yourself a favor and keep using it or install it. Stay away from sites online trying to offer you this installer. I see a lot of them are now infected.
I still use DesignPro today for Return Address labels, Shipping Labels and making gift tags for the Holidays. I can store my. Zdl files offline for safe keeping.
Please note: DesignPro had a few quirks especially with Labels and specific printers. If you tend to use several different printers, do yourself a favor and create a sub-folder for the Printer Model of the label you want to save. That way, you are not adjusting the offsets again or thinking something is wrong with the printer. For example, HP Photosmart 6520, Canon MF laser I have different folders and keep the. Zdl file specific to whatever I printed from.
I hope another company makes something similar to DesignPro that users are able to save their own works on whatever system they want and not keep something on Avery (CCL) website.
I am now staying away from new labels from Avery since they will Not provide the label spec's anymore so you can keep using an older program.
Avery (CCL) Design & Print is an epic fail! Even their older "offline" Design & Print - desktop would not print correctly. I remember having to adjust hundreds of times and wasting "test" paper sheets to make sure it matched up to the labels.
Shame on you CCL for making such an obvious attempt to get users to use your Printing services!
It is good to read up on a company before you spend money on their Labels that you will not be able to use properly!
Using an older unsupported program called DesignPro software in order to print my Own labels.
